Kindle Reading 2016 #7
Late posting again, but what else is new?
161. Arson Plus and Other Stories by Dashiell Hammett - A book of shorts about the nameless Continental Op. Not bad, despite hard-boiled not being my thing. Amazon review here.
162. A Rose Before Dying by Amy Corwin - A Regency mystery-romance that's all right. It's a little dark, features an inquiry agency, but has a good ending. Amazon review here.
163. Summer House Party by Various Authors - A collection of 3 novellas set at house parties - not the same house party. Two out of the three are pretty readable. Amazon review here.
164. Florence Nightingale: A Life Inspired by Lynn Hamilton - A summary bio of The Lady with the Lamp that's okay, but if you have read any of the other Nightingale books then you aren't missing anything. Amazon review here.
165. Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell - Incredible YA book featuring a story of first love in late 80s high school. I'm requesting it for Yuletide this year. Amazon review here.
166. Mail Order Bride Collection by Various Authors - Collection of shorts dealing with the mail order bride theme. Decent but no great standouts. Amazon review here.
167. Mexican Made Easy by Marcela Valladolid - Middle of the road Mexican cookbook, no standouts. I picked it up as a Daily Deal because Paul likes the line of food. Amazon review here.
168. The Lord God Made Them All by James Herriot - Good as usual, bittersweet and heart-warming. Amazon review here.
169. The Professor and The Prostitute by Linda Wolfe - Decent true crime read (one large story and a few smaller ones) but nothing more than that. It's also quite dated (mid-80s). Amazon review here.
170. The Girl in Seat 24B by Jennifer Peel - Decent book about a wife whose husband walks out. I could sympathize with her situation, but the voice of the main character was so annoying that I almost didn't keep reading the book. It's kind of predictable and the character has a super-sweet setup. Amazon review here.
171. To Sir, With Love by ER Braithwaite - Classic read that I enjoyed. I'd read the Readers' Digest condensed version years and years ago, but this was more enjoyable. Amazon review here.
172. When We Touch by Brenda Novak - Nice short romance with a "bad boy" who helps the good girl get revenge on her (kinda awful) family. Part of the Whiskey Creek series. Amazon review here.
173. The Michigan Murders by Edward Keyes - Dated but solid true crime book about cases in Ypsilanti. The author deals with the case in a sensitive manner. Amazon review here.
174. Weird Scotland by Various Authors - Little collection of weird little Scotland stories. Probably all stuff you can find on the net, but I got it for free. Amazon review here.
175. Amish Baby Snatched by Diane Craver - Okay book, but much more interaction with the English world than you expect in an Amish book. There's some predictable and melodramatic plot developments and a slam at working women. Amazon review here.
176. The Way Home by Ruth Hartzler - Okay Amish romance novella.
177. The Viscount Meets His Match by Deborah Hale - Nice, sweet Regency, if a tad formulaic. I reviewed this one for Choosy Bookworm. Amazon review here.
178. Lancaster County Amish Grace by Rebecca Price - Amish read that went in my Bad Examples file, but I didn't even bother reviewing it.
179. The Mysterious Governess by Elizabeth Oakley - Regency with cloaks and daggers and secrets, and a hero/heroine that are not in the upper classes and are schemers. I enjoyed it. Amazon review here.
180. Leaving Lancaster by Kate Lloyd - Amish reunion sort of book, but it's peopled with all sorts of unpleasant people. Amazon review here.
181. Season of Grace by Perpetua Langley - Solid Regency, better than the previous one I reviewed by the same author. Good "poor relation" story, athough the heroine suffers from a subset of TSTL, too noble to live. I reviewed this for Choosy Bookworm. Amazon review here.
182. Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome - Upper-crust British male humorous travelogue. Very tongue in cheek and stiff upper lip. Amazon review here.
183. A Stolen Rose by Amy Corwin - A nice Regency that I enjoyed, fresh, but the heroine has an unfortunate name - Anemone. Amazon review here.
184. The Netherfield Affair by Penelope Swan - To be honest, I only finished this one because I didn't have anything better to do. The mystery was too forced. Amazon review here.
185. The Good Life - Mediterranean by Various Authors - Okay diet cookbook, but no real surprises. Amazon review here.
186. Artists in Crime by Ngaio Marsh - My introduction to Inspector Riderick Alleyn, and I can't say I'm really impressed. Just not my cup of tea. Amazon review here.
187. Eternity Ring (Miss Silver) by Patricia Wentworth - Solid Miss Silver mystery. Amazon review here.
188. Alice's Adventure in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - Classic.
