Dear Yuletide Writer,
First, I thank you in advance. I hope your assignment doesn't give you too many headaches!
Fandoms are not in a particular order – I know I’ll love the story you write, no matter which request it fills. One is a repeat request, but if we weren’t matched on it , don’t worry.
Optional details are optional, but I tend to be one of the people who always wants MORE information, so I provide plenty. (Probably more than a writer really needs, but it's all part of the spirit of things)
General things: Stories don’t need to be super sappy and sugary , but please don’t get all grim and dark. Bittersweet can work. Holiday-themed is fine if that’s where the story takes you, but not required. I generally prefer het or gen. I'd rather not have too-explicit sex for Yuletide, but romance is always in. The "fade to black" or implied sex is fine, or making out.
Without further ado:
Nancy Drew – Carolyn Keene
Nancy Drew, Helen Corning
Helen Corning – the sidekick before George and Bess came on the scene, last seen in Nancy Drew #46, The Invisible Intruder. She’s pretty plucky, and generally up for assisting Nancy with an investigation as well as being social and decorative. #4, Mystery at Lilac Inn, is my favorite featuring her. I miss her.
So, what I am looking for here is one of two things – either a return to the yellow spine days of sheath dresses and flower arranging with Nancy and Helen being suitably social girl detectives (preferably pre-Helen’s wedding, but that’s not described in the books so you could even work with that as a plot point) OR update Helen Corning to the 1980s Nancy Drew Files world. Mystery not required, I just want to see Helen again. Even if you wanted to go back to the Original Nancy, that would be workable too - I love Nancy Drew and her world in pretty much all their incarnations.
If you're looking for something to do the Misses Clause challenge with, this is a good bet.
Feel free to drag the other characters in the tag set in as needed, except Ned Nickerson – I’m a Nancy Drew/Frank Hardy shipper (hey, bring him along too if you like!) Don Cameron is a character from ND #3 The Hidden Bungalow, and there if you need convenient muscle whom Nancy occasionally dates. (He is also in Nancy Drew Files #27, but a little differently characterized as Nancy's first serious boyfriend.)
This is the fandom that I write in most, and I could bore you with how much I love Nancy Drew and company. I'll refrain.
The Nonesuch – Georgette Heyer
Ancilla Trent, Patience Chartley, Tiffany Wield, Courtenay Underhill
So, Tiffany Wield is one of the Heyer characters that many people (including me) love to hate.
She’s strikingly beautiful, rich, self-centered, petted and spoiled beyond belief, but still young enough that she could change.
She probably won’t though.
When last seen at the end of the Nonesuch, she was off to London to wind a bachelor uncle or two around her thumb. I would be willing to bet, however, that she doesn’t stay there long… I envision her being sent back to Staples for either her own good or her guardian’s sanity. Give me a Heyer-esque romp, possibly concerning Patience and Julian’s wedding (don’t let her ruin it, but comeuppance is always fun to watch) in the vicinity of Staples. I'd prefer Staples over London just because we have the characters there, and London hijinks happen in just about every other Regency ever. Feel free to use whoever from the book, but I’m very fond of both Patience and Ancilla. I enjoy Courtenay being snarky and ultimately helpful.
This one is tied with Cotillion for my absolute favorite, and it's on my read when I'm depressed list. If I was going to step into a Heyer book, I'd pick this one. If only so I could strangle Tiffany.
If you feel like crossing over with other Heyers, that's cool too (I also enjoy A Civil Contract (Julia Oversley v. Tiffany Wield, I'd bet on Tiff), Cotillion, The Unknown Ajax) but certainly not required.
He-Man and the Masters of the Universe
Queen Marlena, King Randor, He-Man/Adam
I love Marlena. I used to pretend to be her when I was a kid, and I’d love to see something with her at the center. The Rainbow Warrior episode always blows me away – the backstory, the intimation that she knows Adam is He-Man (she doesn’t specifically say it, but that’s always been my takeaway from the line “A mother knows what her son is capable of”), and the emotion in Randor’s voice when she’s revealed to the group – there’s pride and love and yes, I may have obsessively watched the episode a few times, why do you ask? The idea that she knows Adam is He-Man also lends additional emotion to the scene in the movie where Adora has been kidnapped.
How does she deal with life on Eternia, being a queen, all that fun stuff? Maybe she misses Earth, but I am interested in the life she has on Eternia. Take it in whatever direction it leads you – I’m not really into Prince-Adam-as-a-kid fic, more interested in the present day. The relationship between Marlena and Randor interests me as well, or maybe introspection about how Adam’s secret affects the relationship with his father.
Just give me Marlena.
I've done one story in the MOTU universe, and it's pretty Adam/He-Man specific introspection.
Again, optional details are optional - I am just one of the people who likes to throw something out there for you to work with, but go where the story leads you! I can't wait to read it on Christmas morning!
