This semester's contribution towards my MA in History was The Atlantic World. Plenty of reading for it. Only the books in bold are the ones that remain on my shelf.
93. Sacred Gifts, Profane Pleasures by Marcy Norton - Supposed to be about how chocolate and tobacco came to the Old World from the New but boring. Not a keeper.
94. The Head in Edward Nugent's Hand by Michael Leroy Oberg - Good book about early (Roanoke era) English-Native interactions. Keeper.
95. Bonds of Alliance by Brett Rushforth - All about French slavery of Natives. Okay read, but not a keeper.
96. Ireland in the Virginian Sea by Audrey Horning - Comparisons between Irish and North America colonization, with sides of archaelogy evidence. Not bad, but not a keeper.
97. PIllaging the Empire by Kris Lane - Piracy focused. Ended up getting a later edition on Kindle but did read a much-marked dead tree version as well. Not a keeper (because on the Kindle)
98. Independence Lost by Kathleen DuVal - Best book of the class, focused on Revolutionary-era activities on Gulf Coast. Very readable and a keeper.
99. Transatlantic Obligations by Jane Mangan - Book on Spanish women and their interactions with Spanish America. Not a keeper.
100. Public Lives, Private Secrets by Ann Twinam - I had actually previously owned this book. It's focused on illegitimacy and petitions to grant legitimacy in Spanish America. Not a keeper (again).
101. To Love, Honor and Obey in Colonial Mexico by Patricia Seed - Pretty much what it sounds like on the cover. Not a keeper.
102. The Women of Colonial Latin America by Susan Migden Socolow - Good read, good overview of the subject. Not a keeper, but only because there is a more up-to-date edition.
103. Women of the Iberian Atlantic by Sarah E. Owens and Jane Mangan - Good scholarly treatment of subject but dry. Not a keeper.
104. Women in the Crucible of Conquest by Karen Vieira Powers - Good book, focused on filling in gaps on the subject. Keeper.
105. The Faces of Honor by Lyman Johnson and Sonya Lipsett-Rivera - Decent book but not a keeper.
106. Sexuality and Marriage in Colonial Latin America by Asuncion Lavrin - Good scholarly work, but not a keeper.
107. The Women of Colonial Latin America by Susan Migden Socolow - This is the 2015 edition, which is a little nicer. Definitely a keeper.
